In MY OPINION,Rev. Wright didnt say anything negative about President Obama.  He is only TEACHING the TRUTH.  Which is the ONLY JOB of a minister.  It is not his job to form his sermons based on what will happen in the political world.
I have not heard the WHOLE SERMON, i am trying to find it.  But based on what was put into this article, i just dont see the hate that the author is trying to claim.
I do understand the points that Rev. Wright is making.  He is simply saying that WE NEED TO EDUCATE OUR OWN.  There is nothing wrong with going to Harvard, Yale, or any other mostly white school.  But it does seem that many of our people that go to those schools seem to come out of them "less black".   They say that they have been EDUCATED, but i must question the level of education that would have a person turn their back on their own after gaining said EDUCATION.

Right, the fact of the matter is when we are able to advertise the issues we have for all blacks to see, and allow blacks to understand the reality of their situation, only then can we move forward. The white African king almost made me vomit, I mean THE AUDACTIY!!! Whites, Asians, and other non-blacks would never appoint a Black person to rule over them, and don't be fooled by Obama, he's nothing but a mouth peice and a "half black face" on white power to the true rulers of the Western world. It's all about identity at this point, black people must identify with their true heritage and culture, an African centered education is the only way to successfully teach a black african child.
Lol, I still cannot believe it myself, we seem to be the only people who automatically raise others above ourselves as if it is built into our DNA... We have always allowed others to live amongst us and then steal everything we have and even rule over us, yet if another black person even looks at us too hard we are ready to kill them!!! Unless we somehow find it within ourselves to unify we are always going to be easily manipulated and divided by others.

We must teach our children racial pride because it will help keep them standing together if any racial tension started to arise throughout the west!

Blacks need to put pressure on these black scientists and other profesionals to work for our own advancement, this is why a black conciousness and identity is so important, they do not see themselves as part of the black collective so they won't use their talents to improve our race, which woud also improve them.
I agree, this is where solid black leadership would come in handy, they could help draft these people in to do certain tasks for us, these scientists are never going to listen to the ordinary man, we need people like Farrakhan or maybe positive black celebs to get involved and put their names to certain community projects that are aimed at raising-up the black community!

Failure is no longer an option for black people in this day and age, either we fix ourselves or we don't. If we choose to improve we will sky rocket to the top, however if we don't...we will fall to an indefinite future.
I think we also need to start designing an agenda for improvements that need to be done in our black communities, we must find out exactly how much support we have from our people... These agendas need to somehow be publicised.

Maybe we could have an internet site where these real issues and solutions are discussed so that blacks world-wide can see what others have done in their areas to solve certain problems and maybe then they can implement those solutions in their communities also. Our problems are virtually the same all over the world so if one community finds a solution, it could help other black communities elsewhere, this is why unity is so important!

These are issues that we need to tackle in our communities and find solutions for before things get even worse!

The situation is even worse for black people in England... We are barely 3% of the population here and 30% of us are mixed race, the rest of our demographics consist of mainly Jamaican or descended and then African or African descended but the two communities are just now learning to tolerate each other!
The Africans are doing well at schools and universities and mainly stick to their own culture but we both are still behind other races who do run most of the businesses in our communities. Africans are even less likely to be Afrocentric than Caribbean's and they generally care more about being accepted by white society or sticking to their fellow countrymen (e.g Ghanians stick with Ghanians) than building up their communities and countries, we do not have many black politicians in Parliament and have virtually no black community leaders whatsoever that are in our media... Britain is very white oriented. The only truly hardcore black-minded community representing us in Britain are the true Rastafarians and a few others.
Blacks in Britain are being assimilated into (and overwhelmed by) white society and have a very high rate of interracial relationships which is at something like 30% of all our unions!... So in the future there will be a very small number of blacks left in Britain. America is far more advanced in respect to Afriocentricism and we probably have about only 200,000 blacks here at the moment who would care about any black nationalism, we are scattered, but we do have small communities scattered around here filled with black people that could be a start, but Indians and Chinese run virtually all the businesses there!
Wow, that is pretty bad, and I've heard about the high interracial rate amongst blacks and whites in Britain. I believe afrocentricity as we know it today is more prevalent in America because it is where it was most promoted. Once again the implementation of African centered schools will have to be built to point our children in the right direction in Britain too. It's just so interesting to me how the exact same situation of Asians and Indians owning most of the businesses in black areas is happening over there and in America. What is the history of blacks in Britain? I once saw a documentary about Jamaicans making a massive immigration to Britain, I'll do some research.

All I can say is that I hope you are right, I haven't seen any examples of this happening but it is always a possibility, however, we would have to unite first and all be on the same page and want the same results before this would happen, this is why I think we would need big names to help us unite as we are not a people that tend to unite at will or without a big purpose or a leader rallying us. The only two instances I have seen blacks uniting willingly without a leader behind us is when we are rioting, but hopefully this will change if enough of us realise that "united" we can force changes. You are right, I always say that it is time for action now, the time for talk is almost over, the white mans system is about to collapse on him and we will get caught-up in it and suffer much worse than anyone else will if we are still here in our current state... the wealthy people will probably be in heavily gated communities or nice islands while normal folk will be left on the streets fighting and dyeing for scraps of bread! We need to be moving now and getting our people to take action today before it is too late for us. Once the system crashes, we are stuck and cannot leave the country. Things are going to get tough very soon and those who aren't currently working or taking actions towards their goals today may never reach them!

There are a lot of ignorant comments here. There's a reason they're setting up these voter ID laws in unison. There's a reason a PA lawmaker boasted that because of voter ID laws PA would now go to Romney. Check for yourselves the stats on voter fraud. After that keep in mind that voter IDs would only address a percentage of voter fraud involving polling place identity fraud. Check those stats. These laws result in a higher likelihood of eligible voters not voting than ineligible voters being prevented from voting. That goes against the supposed purpose of these laws, but these laws were never about fair elections. They are about trying to discourage eligible voters in America---who let's be honest are easily discouraged from voting as it is---from voting, because most of those without the IDs don't vote Republican.

__________________________

He is correct. Voter fraud is rare and there are vehicles in place if found.  This is word-play for "Democratic" voter suppression and is a huge smoke screen! We cannot just sit back and let rights be taken away at every whim of the GOP/conservatives because they can't just win on votes alone. This is another elaborate lie and trick.

Aba,
Can I please say something? No one is more suited to understand and uplift the black woman than a black man. Black men have gotten a bum rap from day damn one. Joblessness, incarceration, police suspicion and brutality, etc…the list goes on and on.
Black women have it hard too…
Being on the very bottom of the totem pole with beauty, finances, health, child care and family etc, we need each other to lift each other up.
Blacks have been pitted against each other since day one and frankly I am sick of it! I love black men. Love their strength, their insight, their refusal to give up, their spirit, their manliness, their fierceness and everything that makes them…them.
I had a Sicilian partner in my ignorant days. His mom looked A LOT like me, if you know what I’m saying. She hated me and he chose…HER. Lesson Learned.
We need to stop this madness now and put the Willie Lynch Syndrome behind us.

Abagond thank you for this post. I feel that it says what needs to be said and cuts right to the point. It is disheartening to see how much Black men and Women are put down in the media, and by self professed experts who don’t have a clue, and who are also disinclined to listen to the voice of reason. I hope that this post will somehow make it into the mainstream media, and be tweeted, blogged, and linked to.
As a side note, walking through slave castles and hearing the narrative of what happened to Black people, really led me to believe that there is so much healing needed. The psychological damage runs deep, but over time, and like Burrell pointed out, this can be changed. The pictures of Black men and women who love each other and mirror a healthy stable relationship are wonderful. Again, thank you.

____________________

I don’t think it’s just slavery that’s the cause of this. I think the general history of the oppressing of black people after slavery which included – as stated in the article – welfare and mass incarceration. We also must note the Black Codes, Jim Crow, genocides, the War on Drugs (mass incarceration) and everything else in-between.
I always like to include the media when discussing this because I think it plays a significant role in how black people see themselves. It is a continuous campaign of making black people feel and appear inferior to whites all for the sake of white supremacy. No civilized society would ever engage in this let alone deny its existence.

Nice post abagond!
A few distinctions to make:
In Africa these statistics don’t hold up… A lot of black people get married and stay married. Divorce rates are low, waaaaay lower than in the west. Family units are stronger and closely knit.
In america, maybe these statistics are true, that black people are disintegrating in terms of structure as put forward by the post. I take everything randy says with a huge pinch of salt but he brought up a piece of statistic that shows, if accurate, the situation now is waaaay worse than before the civil rights – in terms of the strength of the family unit.
I think as mentioned above, 3 things are mainly responsible:
1. Internal racism. External racism has given way from prominence and internal racism has taken its place. The effects are far reaching.
2. Nature of modern society. Modern society does not promote building strong family units. Divorce rates are high, relationships are short lived. The extended family is pretty much non-existent.
3. Black popular culture as promoted by the mainstream. Rap music for one doesn’t help the situation. Emphasis on things that shouldn’t really matter, “Bling bling, crime, degradation of women – especially black women, emphasis on women is more as objects which promotes the notion that, just like any object you possess, you can always throw it away once it has served its purpose…. etc”

@ Linda, I think I did make the comparison, with even poor white women having the possibility of marrying a fire-fighter , a police officer or some other type of working -class stiff and striving for middle-class status, it may have taken some time but at least it was attainable. For many Black women , being in a “marriage” that benefitted her through social status and a modicum of financial security was damned near in impossibilty because of the rampant racism socially exercised against Black men.I could care less if white women , give a s*** about the black woman’s plight, u never did anyway..Feminism was used by white women to drive an even deeper wedge between Black men and Black Women by telling Black women that, because of the racial and societal constraints being levied against Black men , Black women didn’t need them anyway.. And certainly there were Middle and Upper-Middle class communities in America that existed separately from white society , Zora Neale Hurston chronicled these communities frequently in her novels and they were singled ot for destruction by the white american government and greater white society at large who were daned if the black race would succeed , this was evidenced in communities like Tulsa, Oklahoma, which was a Black community where the dolllar circulated 52 times within the community before it left the community . Nowadays a dollar circulates within a “black community” twice before exiting. Because the people of Tulsa were separate and successful there community was air-bombed by the U.S.Military .The only time The U.S. Military bombed on native american soil.Thank U.

I don’t think that Black male artist have total input in how they brand themselves, but they do have a lot of input. Even if White handlers do try to put in content that would disrespect Black women, these Black male artists could tell them that they are not going to disrespect Black women. In general, Black males are willing puppets but will pretend that they had no choice.
No, a Black Artist control in this business is limited if non-existent.They must support a luciferian agenda of promoting amoral behavior, racism and self-hatred.. Don’t want to go off-topic because the record industry and the control it wields over all of its artists , in particular, it’s black artists is pretty well-known. I will post an exerpt from Lauryn Hill’s recent post to her Tumblr account
Lauryn Hill:
“As my potential to work, and therefore earn freely, was being threatened, I did whatever needed to be done in order to insulate my family from the climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism that I was surrounded by. This was absolutely critical while trying to find and establish a new and very necessary community of healthy people, and also heal and detoxify myself and my family while raising my young children.”
Lauryn is discussing the control that sinister forces within the “record industry” levy against their “artists” I won’t post the link here but u can read her entire statement just google Lauryn Hill Tumblr post.
The record industry has a clear agenda against the black race with the music promoting violence, sexual amorality, dearth of love, materialism and lack of compassion for others in particular Black Women.

@ Linda what effected black women and white women in america were two completely separate things. Make no mistake. Whoopi read Elizabeth’s a___ on national television for uttering silly statements like this. White women of a certain class could transcend their circumstances quite easily, for black women race and class were bound together very tightly. Many Black women during reconstruction were educated but their race inhibited them from gaining employment outside of being domestics or schoolteachers.White women could marry well and be subservient to their husbands and when there husbands were working or out being men, support feminism. Many Black women did not have this option because the only jobs available to Black men was working as a Pullman porters or elevator operators or in some domestic capacity for whites. That is if a Black man could find work. If a Black family wanted or needed welfare the Black man could not be living in the home of his family, that means the Black man had to take all his clothing and belongings out of the home where he was supposed to be The King and go hide somewhere.Women were effectively FORCED to become the heads of their households by the whhite racist system that is America. My mother who was born in 1937 has told me that 99% of the black men she knew growing up were alcoholics because of the crushing hopelessness of a Black man’s life in America having their manhood stepped on eaxh and every day.The famous writer Zora Neale Hurston a published writer and quite prolific in her day, at the end of her life was working as a domestic. I don’t know what ur background is but u seem to know very little of the African-American experience.

You said, “give me a break. nobody is responsible for what their ancestors did. judge people by who they are, and what they’ve accomplished. just because someone’s white doesn’t mean they’re an “opressor”, and just because someone’s ancestors were slaves doesn’t mean they’re perpetually a victim. yes, institutionalized racism still exists, but it can be overcome with hard work. what a toxic mindset. people are just people. in a country like America, where so many cultures overlap, it seems natural that more people with different ancestries are becoming couples, due to having more and more ideologies and interests in common”
At first I wasn’t going to give your comment the time of day seeing as how I’ve seen similar comments from similar minded people. Somehow, I can’t resist seeing as how you and they suffer from a severe lack of reading comprehension, another symptom of the WRM (white racist mindset) it seems.
At what point did I say anything related about ancestors? Nowhere. So, let’s get that straight, please.
Furthermore, I am honestly sick and tired of people (mostly white) telling me and others to judge people by who they are. History tells us that’s not the way white have judged my people for centuries. They always judge us in one huge monolithic glance of inferiority and savagery. In fact as proven by the trolls that show up here they still do that! Why not give them a lesson in judging people on who they are?
Besides, I nor any other person of color started this trend by the way.
I never generalized white people as oppressors, but I never omitted that they, by and large, are still overprivileged in this society based on skin color alone, and, again by and large, seem to care less.
I also never said mentioned anything about slaves or being perpetual victims of any sort. Where on Earth did you get that from?
It seems like you’re doing nothing put pulling straws.
And don’t give me that hard work stuff. Working hard doesn’t doesn’t always guarantee that you will reach middle-class status let alone become a member of the Fortune 500. Yes, I am aware there are people of color who have “made it”, but there are also many people who haven’t. And it’s not because they’re bitter and lazy. It’s because this society’s capitalism is screwed up.
Dee, do yourself a favor and wake up, or least try to hear where we’re coming from although I have a feeling you won’t seeing as how you prefer to live in your own little American utopia where there is such an American dream. I, on the other hand, choose to remain awake. I’m tired of dreaming.

I agree with Abagond’s points. Especially the second point. I remember really liking this half Black, half White guy. He was one of the nicest people I had met at the time. He dated a few White girls, but I didn’t think anything of that until he began talking about how he hated being half Black and saying all sorts of horrible things about Black people. The unfortunate part of this situation is that the only White woman who will probably stick with him would be a racist one who agrees with all his self-hatred and encourages racism against other Black people.
I would also add that dating outside of your race increases the risk of dealing with racist in-laws, as well. You could also end up disappointed with the lack of understanding from a boy/girlfriend. Let’s face it: our race and our experiences related to it shaped us a lot. It could take a lot more time searching for someone of another race who understands where you’re coming from (especially if they’re White) than searching for someone of the same race who gets it and accepts that racism exists around them.

Something to think about....
You essentially answered your own question. Humans don't have fangs and claws because we have evolved to rely on our tool making abilities to acquire food. Evolution favored this tool making ability over inherent physiological hunting features because it was less specialized and we had a greater ability to adapt to different environments. With no real need to rip apart prey, our teeth rined and became duller, while our intellectual capacity has increased, and thus, our tool-making ability has become more sophisticated.

Humans have found ingenious ways to derive protein from a myriad of sources, which has enabled us to be very adaptive. Our tool-making has allowed us to become this way. We have historically eaten meat because meat supplied us with necessary nutrients in an energy dense form that we, because of our tools, might not have had to expend as much of our energy acquiring due to leverage of our tool use, like spears, or arrows. Our brains thought up the concepts, and our tools did much of the heavy lifting for us.

"The responsibility of the Afrikan American community [is to ensure] Afrika's economic development. The ignoring of Afrika by the Western nations provide windows of opportunity open to native Afrikans to drastically reduce the massive outflow or flight of capital, which has been estimated to exceed 80 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, and to reinvest it in their own countries.

Afrikan peoples and nations across the Diaspora must apprise themselves of a full, ongoing knowledge of the social, economic and cultural history of Afrikan nations as well as their contemporary status and reorganize their sociocultural and economic structures so as to initiate and fuel continental Afrika's growth and development.

The Afrikan American community, especially, should vastly overhaul and reconstruct its educational orientation toward a knowledge of the Motherland. It must realize that its own economic salvation is coterminous with or tied to that of Afrika's. It must invest money and human resources in Afrika's development and perceive its economic prosperity as its special responsibility and mission…

The Afrikan American community must become vigilantly and jealously interested in U.S. and European policies toward Afrika and seek to influence those policies in both its own and Afrika's favor."

They didn't think the show was family friendly. Thats their only gripe with this spectacle.
Black people who love to defend whites and embrace racist conservative pigs should take note of this poor and disrespectful protrayal of the President. It seems to me that so called black conservatives and their groupies are delusional in thinking that racist whites that hate President Obama do so because of his 'socialist' policies. Let them keep decieving themselves. This kind of disrespect for the President is a blanket disdain for all black men in America and beyond. Has President Obama ever been known to have a Ghetto orientation? Has he ever been known to live the pimp and thug life? Here'a a guy who was raised in large part by  his white grand parents, and a white mother. Here's a guy who excelled in school, attended the best colleges this country has to offer, became a lawyer, a College Professor, married to one wife, has no family baggage, and has walked the right path. These are all the qualities white America claim if black people were to possess, that things would be wonderful and they'll be respected.
However, despite President Obama's stellar accomplishments, see how they always choose to portray him. They try to caricature him often as a hustler, or a pimp, or a thug, and why is that? Even where this President has excelled, they try to tarnish that with their senile fixation on representing this President as a  gang banger, and a pimp. Sadly, confused black people with no fondation in logic and common sense reasoning join the bandwagon of racist pyschos to perpetrate this disrespectful portrayal of our President. Do you think White people hate Obama but would accept you instead? You sound like an absolute idiot. The fact that you think Obama has "punked out" to anybody shows you buy into that liberal racist bul____ that a black man has to be angry and violent to get anything done. Barack Obama has had the most successful first term since FDR. He's gotten more done in 3 years than Bill Clinton in eight. With every republican in Congress fighting against him, he has passed a historic healthcare bill, ended the Iraq War, ended Don't Ask Don't Tell, won the long fought black farmers fight to get them their money, passed Wall Stree reform and done countless other things that would take hours to write. And yet you use racist emasculating rhetoric against this powerful and succesful black man, because you think Bill Maher is on our side because he votes for Democrats.

You're an idiot. Barack Obama is a highly intelligent, thoughtful, methodical, and extremely successful politician. He is not a thug, he is not angry, he is not violent. And that fact that that is what you and people like Bill Maher think he MUST be because he's black is racist.

Courage. He speaks the truth as he sees it whether people like him or not, and his core beliefs remain consistent, one day to the next. He is a man. The truth is always ill-timed for our politician friend and his elaborate latticework of false promises, false choices, and lies by omission. Wright is a leader, our politician friend is more like a janitor, a janitor who cleans up the messes of the rich and powerful.

________

I don't believe his statements were aimed at Obama he was just speaking the truth. I grew up right next to Yale University and the majority of my teacheres were Yale graduates he speaks the truth. I didn't get the negative things that the writer envokes here but I heard what he was saying indirectly. I know people who refuse to send their children to a HBCU because they feel they will never get a quality education there. That is why a lot of our HBCU's are struggling. For example Barber Scotia is almost closed down and lost accreditation because we won't send our children there some of us value the white Ivy league education over that of HBCU. The writer D.L. Chandler is utilizing this form to create division among us. Many of these questions like; Could his timing have been any worse considering the poll numbers show a tight race between Obama and the presumptive GOP candidate Mitt Romney? and whether or not Wright’s stance will have any effect on Black voters as fall quickly approaches? I'm acutely aware of how the media black or white puts itself in the seat of judgement. Here I saw to those who take offense to Rev Wrights words is this. Is it a lie?

Wright would add, “We need to tell our children how we got from a Black congressman named Adam Clayton Powell to a black president named Barack Hussein Obama. But we also need to tell them how we have Black politicians who steal money.”
Using my English comprehension skills, I know that "but" is used to draw contrasts.  In the last sentence, Rev. Wright is simply contrasting good Black politicians (Powell and Obama) to the Black politicians that abuse their office by stealing. Rev. Wright point is that we should carefully vet our politicians and don't let Black skin fool us.
“Take that baby, him or her away from the African mother, away from the African community, away from the African experience and put them Africans over at the breasts of Yale, Harvard, University of Chicago, UCLA, or UC Berkeley,” Wright said.
Being that Pres. Obama DID NOT have an AFRICAN MOTHER and he DID NOT grow up in the AFRICAN COMMUNITY, I can conclude this comment was not aimed at Pres. Obama. Rev. Wright feels that the ideal place for AFRICANS to study is AFRICA.
I read this article twice, and there was no criticism of Pres. Obama in this sermon. From the sermons I've heard of Rev. Wright, his sermons were quite Afro-Centric, so I don't see the need to interpret his sermons. I've also learned that Rev. Wright doesn't beat around the bush. If he wanted to OPENLY CRITICIZE Pres. Obama, HE WOULD HAVE! So, stop starting stuff, Mr. Chandler. LOL.

We must teach our children to be aware of all whites and other races because even the ones who we feel are our friends can harbour feelings of superiority over blacks.
When we know ourselves no one can ever sway us from our destiny.

So its okay for Pat Robinson to speak about political issues and call for the assassination of an international president, but when a Black man takes this system to task about the injustice of what his has done to people of color, then he is not being a "reverend"? Take that crap to TBN and 700 club to people like Pat Robinson and Billy Graham and tell them what their job supposed to be too.
